She loves a big chopper

Yesterday we splurged on a once-in-a-lifetime experience – a helicopter trip through the Grand Canyon at Sunset.

We flew with a company called Maverick who had the biggest, safest looking copters in Vegas. It seats six tourists, four in the back and two up front next to the pilot. Helicopters can be tricky beasts to fly so the pilots assign seat positions based on weight to balance the chopper out. WoH and I not being American were chosen to be in the front two seats on the journey out to the canyon, giving us the best view of the most awe inspiring scenery west of Glencoe.

I had never been in a helicopter before and was a bit nervous but as soon as we got up in the air I was hooked. The swooping, banking and maneuverability of the craft was inspiring and as we hovered over Hoover dam, slipped past the skywalk and plunged down the canyon, the earth seems like such a vast, beautiful place to live. The noise and clutter of the casinos were left far behind as the changing colours of the canyon rocks did their thing like they have done for millions of years. Halfway through the trip we landed and had a champagne picnic on the floor of the west Rim. I will remember that forever.

I also got to say ‘Negative Ghostrider, the pattern is full’ whilst wearing a headset. It was way cool. We are getting a DVD of the trip.

In other news we have been trawling round casinos trying to find a Wheel of Fortune machine (actually called a Big 6) that the WoH can win on. Sadly to no avail. I have not cashed in a poker game since my early victories but have offset WoH’s losses with a few big wins on High stakes black-jack.

The WoH has been shopping feverishly in case we run out of handbags, shoes and nik-naks. Yesterday a transvestite shop assistant helped her pick out a lovely dress.

We have been seeing shows too. Our last one was Penn & Teller at The Rio. I love Penn & Teller and have done for years although WoH was not so keen. She was soon won over by their humour and the beauty and intelligence in their particular brand of magic. They did the live bullet catch trick as well as a Nail Gun trick that had WoH squirming.

The thing that impressed us both was that after the show they hung around in the lobby posing for photos and autographs until everyone went home. I hear after David Copperfield’s show, he runs home like a scared little girl.

  1. Grand Canyon trip sounds amazing mate. I’m also a big fan of Penn & Teller with their gross-out illusions so am getting more jealous by each blog. Please stop writing them.
    Andy.

  2. The copter trip sounds out of this world. You’ve won me over- Vegas here I come… just have to finish signing these sick lines first…
BTW- did you not know about the handbag and shoe shortages? Better stock up now before it’s too late.
