Strawberry Fields

I took a trip down to Central Park West on my own yesterday and paid a visit to the Dakota building where John Lennon was murdered. Across the road in Central Park they have created an area (funded by Yoko) called Strawberry Fields which is more a celebration of hope than a maudlin memorial to a too-short life.
I can see why John wanted to live here. It is a city where a lot can be achieved in a short space of time. You really can change the world from this 22 mile square little island. The U.N. is here, the worlds financial centre and the mainstream media is here. If you want to preach love or hate, peace or violence, wealth or poverty, selfishness or benevolence you can find a voice here. You just have to find a way to be heard above the cacophony of the streets. Trump built his (ugly) towers to be heard, the Pope used the sheer magnitude of his followers and Osama bin Laden used the ugliest single act of violence ever inflicted on  the American public.
It would be nice if someone spouting a more positive message could occasionally get the attention of the public. Sadly John Lennon can’t be that guy. Who will step up and how will they do it? A good start would be Obama.
